Tau Ceti (Latinized from τ Ceti) is a single star 11.9 light-years (3.7 parsecs) away from Earth in the constellation Cetus. It is a main-sequence star with a stellar classification of G8 V, and it hosts a system of ten planets and thick debris disk. The seventh planet, Tombaugh, hosts several human colonies.

First settled early in the 32nd century, by the year 3725 the system had a population of 300 million people.
